Data Request Pricing
The Midwestern Regional Climate Center offers a variety of custom data services, some of which are free and others are paid. All data that come from our parent agency, the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), are free to you. Costs associated with any order from those data holdings are for the staff time necessary to provide the data in the user-specified format. Data from specialized networks may incur a cost for both the data and personnel time necessary to provide the data. Costs are broken down by One-time Data Delivery and Certified Data Requests and Recurring Data Delivery.
One-time Data Delivery and Certified Data Requests
Data needed within these requests are for unique cases and are often time single requests. Data are pulled and returned in the desired format. Certified data requests can also be considered a unique case as these are generally pulled for a single location. Questions or requests that can be fulfilled within an hour will not be charged. Otherwise, time spent on the request outside of the initial hour will be charged $50/hour. The nature of the data request and any associated fees will be communicated before completing the data request. Once fees are approved, an invoice will be generated and sent via email. Online and mail-in payment options are included on the invoice. All certification requests require a service charge. Shipping costs are included within the approved fees below.
The Certified Data Request processing fee will be increased to $50 beginning in January 2024.

Recurring Data Delivery
Recurring Data Delivery allows MRCC staff to automate data pulls and deliver on client-specified schedule. The MRCC currently provides this service to several organizations across the Midwest. Fees include one-time fees for the cost to automate the data feed, the frequency of data delivery (daily, weekly, or monthly), the number of stations requested, and a monthly service fee. Data delivery discounts are available for more than 100 stations.
