Mixed Temperatures

Average temperatures across the Midwest were within 2°F of normal, with locations to the east of the Mississippi River trending cooler-than-normal and locations to the west trending warmer-than-normal (Figure 1). High temperatures were 2-8°F above normal in Missouri, western Iowa, and southwestern Illinois while the remainder of the regional was either near normal or slightly below normal (Figure 2). Below normal minimum temperatures were widespread across Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky with isolated areas of above normal minimum temperatures in western Minnesota and northern Michigan (Figure 3).

Drier-Than-Normal Continues

Little-to-no precipitation was observed in the western portion of the Midwest while the eastern states had about 0.2-1.0” (Figure 4). An isolated area in southern Indiana exceeded 1” of precipitation (rain). Snowfall across northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin, central Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio ranged from 0.1-2.5” (Figure 5). The Upper Peninsula of Michigan had lake-effect snow on 6 of 7 days this week resulting in a widespread area of up to 6” of total snowfall. Chatham, Michigan (Alger County) recorded 10.8” for the week, with 9.5” falling on November 15.
