November 15-21, 2000

  • Weekly Summary

November 15-21, 2000:

Conditions turned markedly cooler during the second half of November, and was also drier, except in some areas along the Great Lakes where lake-effect snowfall was heavy. Most of the region was 50% or more below normal in precipitation (Figure 9), with southern Iowa and northwestern Missouri receiving virtually no precipitation. Light snow fell as a cold air mass entered the region on November 16 and 17, but a second cold air mass brought togther the conditions for strong lake effect snow on the 20th and 21st, when 1 to 2 feet of snow fell in the snow belt regions around the Great Lakes in both Upper and Lower Michigan.
