Cold Continues

The 4th week of November was a another cold week across the Midwest. Temperatures were 10°F to 15°F below normal across the northwest portion of the region, primarily in Minnesota with the remaining states 3°F to 6°F below normal (Figure 1). Southwest Missouri had near normal temperatures for the week, but was primarily driven by maximum temperatures near 70°F on November 30th (Figure 2). although some minimum temperatures set record lows across the northern states, they were within a few degrees of past records.

 

Rainfall Early On, Lake-effect across the Far North Following

Precipitation totals ranged from 0.00 to 0.25 inches of rain on the western and eastern peripheries with amounts across the central portion of the region ranging 0.5 inches to 1.5 inches (Figure 3) with isolated pockets up to 2 inches across south central and central Indiana reported on the morning of November 24th, 2014 (Figure 4). With the northwest winds behind the system that brought rainfall on the 24th, lake-effect snowfall amounts near 1 foot fell across northern Michigan and far, northern Wisconsin (Figure 5).
